Language: French; Spanish

Wikipedia Abstract

The common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus; Georgian: კოლხური ხოხობი) is a bird in the pheasant family (Phasianidae). The genus name comes from Latin phasianus, "pheasant". The species name colchicus is Latin for "of Colchis" a country on the Black Sea where pheasants became known to Europeans. The word pheasant is derived from the ancient town of Phasis, the predecessor of the modern port city of Poti in Western Georgia.
