It is native to eastern North America, including eastern Canada and the eastern half of the United States. In the wild this plant grows in wooded areas, on prairies, and in disturbed habitat such as roadsides. It is tolerant of drought. It fixes nitrogen. The cultivar 'Kanoka' was released by the USDA in 1998. |
