The lignotuberous shrub typically grows to a height of 0.3 to 0.8 metres (1 to 3 ft) and has non-glaucous branchlets. It has simple flat undissected leaves with a blade that is 20 to 85 millimetres (0.8 to 3.3 in) in length and 10 to 45 mm (0.39 to 1.77 in). It blooms from December to June and produces a terminal raceme irregular inflorescence with red flowers. Later it forms smooth ellipsoidal glabrous fruit that is 11 to 16 mm (0.4 to 0.6 in) long.
