Animalia > Chordata > Aves > Apodiformes > Trochilidae > Heliangelus > Heliangelus spenceiHeliangelus spencei (Merida Sunangel)Synonyms: Heliangelus amethysticollis spencei; Trochilus spencei The amethyst-throated sunangel (Heliangelus amethysticollis) is a species of hummingbird. It is found in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest. The taxonomy of this species is uncertain. The subspecies spencei is recognised by Sibley and Monroe as a full species, the Merida sunangel, H. spencie (Bourcier 1847), but other authorities lump it with Longuemare's sunangel, H. clarisse of Colombia and Venezuela or consider both spencei and clarisse as subspecies of amethyst-throated sunangel. |
