Phrynobatrachus inexpectatus is a species of frog in the Petropedetidae family. It is endemic to Ethiopia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, swamps, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, and pastureland. It is threatened by habitat loss.
