The Elvira Rat (Cremnomys elvira) is a critically endangered species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is found only in the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry shrubland. DescriptionSize: Head and body length: 149 mmTail length: 196 mm The upper parts are brownish grey and the underparts are greyish white. The tail is bicoloured. Its length is thought to be an adaptation to movement among rocks. Major threats are habitat loss, conversion of forests and fuel wood collection.
