Aulonocara nyassae, known as the emperor cichlid, is a species of freshwater fish in the Cichlidae family that is endemic to Lake Malawi. The name emperor cichlid has also been applied to Boulengerochromis microlepis of Lake Tanganyika, more commonly known as the giant cichlid.
