Pholidoscelis corax (Anguilla Black Ameiva)

Synonyms: Ameiva corax

Wikipedia Abstract

Censky's ameiva or Little Scrub Island ground lizard (Ameiva corax) is a lizard species in the genus Ameiva. It is endemic to the tiny islet of Little Scrub, off the coast of Scrub Island, Anguilla. The population appears to be thriving, possibly due to its isolation from human activity. It is a melanistic species, superficially similar in its dark coloration and scalation to Ameiva atrata and Ameiva corvina, other species also found on small, barren Caribbean islands. This is believed to be due to independent adaptation to the similar local environments.
