Kankuamo marquezi

Wikipedia Abstract

Kankuamo is a monotypic genus of spiders in the Theraphosidae family. The sole species is Kankuamo marquezi and they can be found in Sierra Nevada, Colombia. The spider has urticating hairs protruding from its body, which measures about four inches in length. These sword shaped, bristly hairs are used as a defense mechanism against its enemies. They use them by stinging or stabbing enemies, while other tarantulas attack with their hairs from a distance (usually used as a mechanism for throwing). These hairs differ from the hairs that cover the rest of the tarantula’s body because they have a penetrating tip, which allows the hair to embed in the skin or mucous membrane and cause irritation. Smaller animals which eat it may die due to the envenomed wound and humans will get a very bad itchy
