The genus Coronilla contains about 20 species of flowering plants native to Europe and North Africa. Coronilla species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including the case-bearers Coleophora coronillae (which feeds exclusively on Coronilla varia) and Coleophora vicinella.
