Wikipedia Abstract

Lampsilis higginsii is a rare species of freshwater mussel known by the common name Higgins' eye pearly mussel. It is native to the United States, where it occurs in the Mississippi River and the drainages of some of its tributaries. It is threatened by the introduced zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha). It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States. This mussel has been propagated in captivity and released into appropriate habitat in areas where it has been extirpated.
