Description:This foothill and outcrop woodland alliance occurs along the eastern slope of the central Rocky Mountains and adjacent Great Plains. It is dominated by Pinus flexilis and may be codominated by Juniperus scopulorum or, less commonly, Juniperus osteosperma with an understory characterized by an open to moderately dense shrub layer. Herbaceous cover is typically low with less than cover than the shrubs.
