Alphatorquevirus is a recently discovered genus in the new family of Anelloviridae, in group II in the Baltimore classification. It encompasses many type species of the virus formerly known as TTV, Transfusion Transmitted Virus or Torque Teno Virus, SENV, SANBAN, and others. The type species is Torque Teno Virus 1–29.
