Reiszerpeton

Wikipedia Abstract

Reiszerpeton is an extinct genus of dissorophid temnospondyl known from the Early Permian Archer City Formation of Texas. It is known solely from the holotype MCZ 1911, a complete skull. This specimen was thought to be referable to Tersomius texensis alongside MCZ 1912 and MCZ 1415, two other skulls in the collections of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University. A recent study found this skull to represent a new genus and species of dissorophid, while the other skulls were assigned to Tersomius texensis and to Pasawioops cf. P. mayi respectively. Reiszerpeton was first named by Hillary C. Maddin, Nadia B. Fröbisch, David C. Evans and Andrew R. Milner in 2013 and the type species is Reiszerpeton renascentis.
