Micropechis

Wikipedia Abstract

Micropechis is a genus of highly venomous snakes in the family Elapidae. A single species, the New Guinea small-eyed snake, Micropechis ikaheka is recognised. It is considered dangerous to humans, and numerous fatalities have been recorded in New Guinea and on adjacent islands, where the snake is endemic. For much of the 20th century a second species, the Solomons small-eyed snake M. elapoides, was included in Micropechis, but this species was transferred to the newly created genus Loveridgelaps in 1970, by American herpetologist Samuel Booker McDowell.
