Lymexylidae

Synonyms: Atractoceridae; Lymexylonidae

Wikipedia Abstract

The Lymexylidae, or ship-timber beetles (historically often spelled Lymexylonidae), are from the family of wood-boring beetles, and sole member of superfamily Lymexyloidea. They are 5 to 40 mm long. The larvae bore into living and decaying wood (chestnut, poplar, and oaks) where they eat the fungi which grows in their tunnels (Ascoidea hylecoeti). Lymexylidae are considered to possibly be the first beetles to evolve an agriculture behaviour.
