Tometes is a genus of rheophilic fish in the family Serrasalmidae found in northern South America. Three of the six species are restricted to river basins in the Guiana Shield, while T. makue is from the Rio Negro and Orinoco basins. All members of this genus are phytophagous. The genus name Tometes was coined in 1850 by Valenciennes in reference to the incisiform teeth.
